This guide is particularly relevant for businesses operating in regions with stringent regulations governing marketing emails, such as Germany, the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and similar jurisdictions.
Judge.me facilitates the sending of review request emails on your behalf. Although our review request emails can be categorized as transactional emails, it's crucial to note that sending these emails without proper consent may not be permissible in certain countries. Transactional emails, in this context, are those sent during order processing for legitimate interest purposes.
While Judge.me endeavors to align with prominent consumer standards and privacy laws, we cannot guarantee that our service will fully align with your specific requirements.
It's your responsibility to ensure that the settings you configure within Judge.me adhere to the precise rules and regulations of the countries and regions in which you operate.
If your customers have not explicitly opted in to receive marketing emails during the Shopify checkout process, you can automatically exclude them from receiving Judge.me review request emails. This feature helps ensure that your store complies with consumer privacy laws that mandate explicit consent for review request emails.
In cases where review request emails are classified as marketing or promotional emails within your operational countries, you can follow these steps to ensure that you send these emails only to customers who have granted consent:
Step 1: Enable Shopify customer sign-up options
Customers can subscribe to marketing emails in a couple of ways: by filling out a newsletter sign-up form on your online store or by selecting a checkbox during the checkout process.
To add a newsletter sign-up form to your theme, use the Liquid form tag along with the 'customer' parameter. For more comprehensive instructions, consult Shopify's Email Consent Guide and API documentation.
Additionally, you can enable an option for customers to subscribe during checkout through your Shopify admin:
Go to Settings > Checkout from your Shopify admin.
In the Email marketing section, check the box labeled "Show an option to subscribe at checkout."
Save your changes.
By implementing a sign-up form or a checkout subscription option, you can compile a list of subscribers who have explicitly consented to receive marketing emails, including review request emails, from your store.
Step 2: Exclude non-subscribers from Judge.me review requests
Within your Judge.me admin dashboard, access Settings > Review Requests > Conditions > Enable Conditions.
Under the Email Campaign Type, deactivate the toggle switch. By selecting this option, your review request emails will be classified as marketing emails, and individuals who have not opted in for Shopify marketing emails will not receive these review requests.
Save your settings to apply these changes effectively.
